The Hi`ialakai at Pearl and HermesFrom July 7th through July 29th 2007, the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Ship Hi`ialakai ("embracing pathways to the sea," pictured to left), conducted a research expedition to the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. The expedition included ecosystem connectivity research, apex predator (jacks, sharks, grey snapper) tagging and movement studies, coral health assessment, deep-sea time-lapse cameras, and mapping missions.
