PLAN OF THE DAY
NOAA SHIP HI'IALAKAI (R334)
Date: Sept 23, 2004 (Thursday)
Night Ops. (Sept 22, 2004)
1800 - 2400 Perform TOAD tows on leeward side of Maro
Reef.
0000 - 0600 Perform two CTD casts to 500m. See night
ops sheet for TOAD and CTD coordinates.
After the 2nd cast, continue to the small
boat launch site.
0730 - Launch HI-3 (19' Safe Boat) for tow boarding,
HI-1 (10m) for REA work, and HI-2 (8m) for moorings
near 25/21.5 N and 170/38.0 W. Launch as close as
safety allows to reduce the distance the 8m tows the
CREWS buoy.
REA Team - Will visit sites 8, 6, and 22.
Mooring Team - Tow crews buoy to designated area and
deploy. Afterwards, Conduct CTD's.
TOW Team - TOW operations along the north (windward)
and along the southern (leeward) part of the reef.
Ship will meet HI-3 at launch site for equipment swap.
Outreach Team - Launch HI-5 at 1400 and recover at
1600.
1630 - Stagger the recovery of boats near the launch
site. HI-2 should be back at 1630, followed by HI-1 at
1635, and HI-3 at
1640.
Night Ops - Transit to Laysan Island. Conduct CTD at
station "Laysan" to 500 meters.
Personnel on bridge watch - Remember to have the
Engineering Dept. bring the 3rd generator on-line
before 7pm.
Thanks to the ET Dept. (An Army of One) for keeping the
Inmarsat going and the communications flowing.
