PLAN OF THE DAY
NOAA SHIP HI'IALAKAI (R334)
Date: Sept 21, 2004 (Tuesday)
0230 - ETA to 'Maro' CTD site. Conduct CTD cast to 500
meters (should take ~ 45 min). During the upcast take
water samples at 150m, 125, 100, 80, and at the
surface. Scott F. will be up. Give Drew a call 30 min
before cast. After the cast, continue to the small
boat launch site on the north-northwest side of the
reef.
0730 - Launch HI-3 (19' Safe Boat) for tow boarding,
HI-1 (10m) for REA work, and HI-2 (8m) for moorings
near 25/28.6 N and 170/40.4 W (south-southeast.)
Monitor ETA to the launch site to ensure the ship will
arrive no later than 0800. If later ETA is calculated,
then opt for launch in the southeastern area near
25/21.0 N and 170/27.0 W.
REA Team - Will visit sites R12, R9, and R3
Mooring Team - Will work in northern area. CREWS buoy
deployment.
TOW Team - Normal operations around the north part of
the reef. Ship will meet HI-3 at north-northwest
launch site around noon for equipment swap.
1630 - Stagger the recovery of boats near the launch
site. HI-2 should be back at 1630, followed by HI-1 at
1635, and HI-3 at 1640.
Night Ops.
1800 - 2400 Perform TOAD tows.
0000 - 0600 Perform two CTD casts to 500m. Locations
of TOAD tows and CTD stations will be determined based
on dive team plans.
To all involved, compliments for handling the rougher
seas with professionalism during recent boat ops. The
'SAFETY FIRST' painted on the stacks is more than just
a slogan, It's a frame of mind.
