PLAN OF THE DAY
NOAA SHIP HI'IALAKAI (R334)
Date: Sept 20, 2004 (Monday)
0130 - ETA to 'Gardner' CTD site. Conduct CTD cast to
500 meters (should take ~ 45 min). Scott F. will be
up. Give Drew a call 30 min before cast. After the
cast, continue to the small boat launch site west of
Gardner Pinnacles.
0730 - Launch HI-3 (19' Safe Boat) for tow boarding,
HI-1 (10m) for REA work, and HI-2 (8m) for moorings
near 24/59.8 N and 168/00.4 W. This list reflects the
order of launching.
REA Team - Will visit sites R3, R5, and R6. Dan, Sue,
and David may snorkel in the AM [turned out to be PM -
D.S.] and the boat will drop them back off at the ship
around lunchtime. Then head back out.
Mooring Team - Will pick up a temp recorder then
conduct CTD's from the boat.
TOW Team - Normal operations around the reef.
1630 - Stagger the recovery of boats near the launch
site. HI-2 should be back at 1630, followed by HI-1 at
1635, and HI-3 at 1640. Please be back on time to
facilitate a 1700 departure to Maro Reef.
1730 - Begin transit to Maro Reef to arrive in early
AM.
Night Ops. - Conduct CTD enroute to Maro Reef at
25/00.0 N and 170/00.0 W.
