REA (Rapid Ecological Assessment) Team A: 2 dives on
East side of shoal. The most beautiful coral reef I have
ever seen in Hawaii. Huge mounds of massive corals
and large plates with nearly 100% live cover. Several Ulua
and White tips but overall fish diversity was low.
(Rapid Ecological Assessment) Team B: 3 dives - on
N and NE of island. Dive 1: Coral biologists dream - "high
coral cover and diversity and signs of bleaching in Montipora
and Porites. Lots of seaweed diversity, especially

1 new permanent monitoring transect on SW side of island.
2 ground truth sites and coral collection dives. One ground
Archaeology : Went to shore to do perimeter survey.
Circomlocuted the Island; initial survey of emergent
intertidal beach on E shore suggests low biomass and diversity.
Team: Went to shore for bird surveys. Will be staying
on island for two nights.
